So I got up at 4am this morning. Drove 40 miles in just under 2 hours because of blowing snow, freezing temps, and inches of ice on the roads. Got to the airport only an hour before my flight. Then I waited and waited and waited. And they cancelled said flight. It was supposed to take off at 8am, arrive in NYC at 10am. Easy, right?
So now I'm sitting in a straight-back chair, cursing Pizza Hut for how greasy their pizza is, and wondering if the 5:12pm flight I have to Detroit (which will THEN connect me to NYC after a plane change (which I've never done before!) and get me to LGA at 9:09pm) will actually take off. Oh, I swear to all heavenly powers it better take off....
AWP, I'm comin' baby. I'm comin'!!

...and you're to blame, honey, you give love a bad name
Bullet Point:
* Some good po-biz news came across the wire today. (This is totally unrelated to the good news mentioned in the last post). Nothing spectacular yet, but let it be known that my ms is a finalist at another contest. This time I am giving no information as to press, judge, or manuscript name. Winner to be announced sooner rather than later. I'll update appropriately.

More bullet points.
* Rilke was spayed today. She's a strong girl and is recovering nicely. Chewing on a bone at my feet as I type. Such a beautiul dog.
* AWP is two days away. I fly out early, early Wednesday morning. Hoping to hit The Strand or something before check-in at the Hilton at 3:00pm. Might catch up with my buddy Adam Theron-Lee Rensch (a rising short fiction star... seriously, remember his long, pretentious name... just kidding about the pretentious part) if time allows.
* Some huge, life-altering news will be hitting Tongue is an Eye one day soon... a couple weeks maybe. Stay tuned. Seriously. Biggest news ever.
* I have exactly enough pairs of socks and boxers for my trip to NYC. I don't think I'll write any more about that.
* I might have a new project... finally. Although anymore I'm not convinced that "Young Teeth" is a publishable manuscript. Bill's looking at it for me though. Can't wait to hear what he thinks. He'll probably have me cutting half the damn thing. Anyway, this project, these new poems. A chapbook maybe? Not sure. Right now, I'm gonna focus on the poems, let the whole congeal over time.
* I'm addicted, again, to caffeine free coke. No diet. Just the caffeine free stuff... with all the sugar. So bloated.
* I'm sick of living on loans. I can't even get the loans I need anymore... my credit took a dive. Damn truck payments, damn bills. But it's what we must do. And do it we must. And we will survive. I have a couple ideas.
* I met a 13-week old pitbull today named Motor. Cutest dog I've seen in a long time. Good luck with your baby, Kasey!
* My workshop is going well this semester. The students seem interested, seem capable writers, seem altogether put together. At least they're writing, reading, and reading some more. Or they should be anyway.
* Again, big news coming soon.
* Lots and lots of books to read. Check me out on GoodReads. If you haven't been to that website, GO! It's loads of fun. Create an account yourself!
* Not gonna be able to buy a lot of books at AWP this year. That's okay. I look at my shelf (to my right... and now to my left also) and see damn near 100 books that I haven't even cracked open yet.
* Gotta let the dog out. More after AWP. Everyone travel safely. See you there.

thera can be pronounced "tara"
Bullet Points:
* I was burn(ed)(t) out over break. Just emotionally used up. I still am. But I want, more now than ever, to rededicate myself to my work. Let's hope I get the chance for longer than one day a week or some other such bullshit.
* I need to start putting words on paper. So much stored up, so much ready to roll off my tongue.
* Friends coming into town tomorrow. Very excited. Haven't seen them in months. Will drink coffee, talk shop, eat good food, converse late into the night about nothing and everything. My soul needs that sort of cleansing. I'm dirty. So dirty.
* Marriage is hard. It's also very rewarding.
* AWP is less than a month away. I'm upset about the ticket situation even though I already have mine. It's unfair for others. I am excited though to see Russell Edson, Charles Simic, and James Tate on the same stage. How cool is that gonna be?!
* Been reading, over break, Seamus Heaney's essays from Government of the Tongue. I hope someday that I'm that smart. Nuff said.
* The hardest part of po-biz is the waiting. Waiting to hear from journals, waiting to hear from contests... this is, I think, especially true when waiting to hear about manuscripts at contests. I try very hard to concentrate on reading and writing and ignoring the business side of things, but I find it harder and harder to do knowing that my baby is out there trying to find a home.

Chicken Dinner?
*Snip*
Brent makes a solid point (Thanks Brent!). I definitely don't want to cause issues. I hate how small this poetry world is. But I perpetuate it on a daily basis, so I guess I can't/shouldn't complain.
Anyway, there was good news here, and now there is no news. Though the news that was posted in this place is still good news.
